Contributors - SEVEN SUITCASES

Amelia Thomas

I am a British journalist, travel writer and author, and have written and contributed to more than a dozen travel books for Lonely Planet, and for publications including BBC Travel, CNN Traveller, Egypt Today, the Washington Times, the Sunday Times and the Christian Science Monitor. I’m mummy to five children, Cassidy (10), Tyger (9), Cairo (7), Zeyah (5), and Indio (1), who regularly join me on adventures and assignments across the world.

My last non-fiction book, The Zoo on the Road to Nablus, tells the story of the last Palestinian zoo, and in 2008 I made a TV programme for Lonely Planet/National Geographic, which you can still see (embarrassingly) here.  Having worked extensively in the Middle East and Asia, we are currently castaway on an island near Vancouver, Canada, where I’m completing my new book, Principal Wigwam.

I’m a writer, editor and producer currently sweating away in the far north of Australia. As an author and online editor for Lonely Planet, I spent much of my 20s reviewing flea pits in the back of beyond (including Israel and the Palestinian Territories where I met Amelia) and writing travel articles for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Jetstar Magazine, BBC Travel and the Telegraph.

I now live in Darwin with little Pearl, who enjoys eating and exploring just as much as her mother. You can read about some of our local adventures here.

Ariela Bard
Sydney Destination Guide

Ariela is a freelance writer who lives in the Sydney beach side suburb of Maroubra with her husband and two children. As a family, Ariela has strapped her children on her back and explored Mexico, California, Arizona, New Zealand and much of Australia. Closer to home, weekends are spent uncovering the best that Sydney has to offer which usually includes trawling the eastern beaches, finding new places to drink coffee and eat lemon tarts, market browsing, book shopping and trying to keep the kids happy at the same time. Her glass of wine at the end of such days is well earned.
